You have to realize that it has been floating in the water for a week, baking in the sun and eaten by scavengers. Then it was baking in the hot sun on the sand for days. Of course it's going to be leathery and bloated. It also clearly has fur.

Where is the animal now? I don't think if they thought as much to photograph it that it that they would not have told someone about it. Also if there is something decomposing on the beach i don't think that those types would have gotten so close for the close up shot. therefore making the size unknown

It looks nothing like a gopher. What gophers have you been looking at? It does not have claws..it's hands are missing and those are bones sticking out of the flesh. If it was in the water for up to 6 days and on the beach for God knows how long, it was surely picked apart by scavengers.

While the interview of the picture takers seems convincing, why wouldn't they have immediately called Animal Control and stayed in the vicinity until the 'creature' was safely removed from the beach. If not to protect the remains of this unknown animal, to protect a child or unknowing person from coming into contact with a decomposing life form? To take a picture, walk away, leave it there, then suddenly find this 'creature' missing - or taken away 'by a guy on the beach looking to mount it on his wall' is absolutely ridiculous...if not ignorant. The CDC would have had a field day with this.

I feel sad for this creature if it's real. People freaking out over a dead being of somekind.It would be awesome to find somemore of them but alive, so there can be some research done on a living one,but not to hurt it. I'd say if it smelled like stench it is real.But no idea what it could be.I'd leave raccoon,dog turtle out though.I love it.

These women are full of it! Check out the nervous chick on the right who keeps sipping on her drink. Give me a break! They're too calm, and they're wearing dark shades. Guilty. They have too much time on their hands and they have definitely taken the time to come up with this. The second pic I've seen resembles the body of a man!

in june 2007 i started to keep an eye on news developments of your region in case any thing odd or strange appeared...this would rate as odd. i did ufo research from 1991 til feb 2008 as an independent investigator and was able to make some significant progress from 2005 til end of 2007. Some of those results i was forced to place on the internet since news and newspapers in my state and also fox tv and cnn never responded to my emails with film video of some of my work...i placed much of it on youtube.com. use search phrase "derr ufo" . oh about the odd creature and the info in the report saying others have been seen, having trouble breathing, thats because they are not use to our atmosphere, yet. To see the cargo ship they likely came in go to youtube.com search phrase "nasa worm" or "nasa ufo" it will show a massive flexible moving spaceship drifting in orbit of the earth...camera was onboard the passing space shuttle at the time... the cargo ufo was taking biomass from some other planet to ours or taking our biomass (likely in seawater) from earth to elsewhere... think it is a joke ? think again. -- Derr

If it is real I would say it is a pig. The pictures are not that clear when zooming in but, it appears that the front feet are split looking like a hoof. The ears are also very triangular seen better on the picture of the opposite side. It also looks like the "beak" the bottom look like pig canine teeth and the top is where the snout would be. At any rate if it the thing did come from Plum island they (as they think it did)should have never touched or moved it not knowing the cause of death.

Also, if it were me, I would have taken more than just the two pictures; it's obviously not a common thing to find. I think they just wanted to get on TV.

It appears to me to be a cat that was in the water and decomposed a bit with some bloating and it probably got roughed up on some hard surfaces; just like the previous comment. The missing fur and bloating gives it an "alien" appearance for sure. If it looked like that before it died it probably didn't have too many friends!
