The Big Duck Migration

The Big Duck Migration
"The Big Duck" as most people refer to this piece of roadside architecture, returned home on October 19th. Guy Davis from Davis construction, donated his time and crew to move this iconic landmark back to Flanders, where it lived from 1936 - 1987. The duck, which was built in 1931 by duck farmers Martin and Jeule Maurer, was moved from West Main Street in Riverhead in 1936. In 1987 it was moved to the entrance of Sears Bellows Country Park to make way for a housing development. Now the duck has gone home to Flanders once again, and this move was celebrated by many on October 20th, with a grand ribbon cutting event.

I can't believe they moved

I want the duck! I want it in my back yard. I will make a great doghouse. I'll call it fleas and quackers.

Thank you so much to every

Thank you so much to every one who made this possible. I just love this duck,as a kid growing up it was the thrill of the day as we would take a trip out to Montauk. Then the grand children came along and they were thrilled as well, now can't wait for our great grand child who is two years old to see him.The water in the back ground fits him well.My family Upstate are very excited because they grew up here and my nephew sent me your website with these beautiful pictures and great story.

Although my family has

Although my family has scattered to the winds, we all grew up on Long Island and have fond memories of the Duck. I was sad when they moved it, and thrilled it is back where it belongs! I remember the family stopping at the Big Duck to buy eggs when I was really little. (must have been 40+ years ago!)How many adults remember buying eggs as a child? Big Duck made a "big" impression! I love where the Big Duck's

I love where the Big Duck's home now is...I can't wait for spring, with the green grass and maybe some tulips, daffodils or pansies around the duck...I'm a North Fork Artist, and was President of the Southampton Artists Assoc...So I drove past the Big Duck quite often going around, and have been waiting for the big move so I could paint The Big Duck in all it's beauty...I want to make prints so all of Long Island and maybe the whole country can see our Big Duck...As soon as I finish the painting it will be on my website JoannCorretti.com Jo-Ann Corretti
