The Shiny, Brand New Hamptons Hot Spots

While some may find the way to enlightenment through eating, praying and loving, in the Hamptons the path to nirvana also includes drinking, shopping and surfing. Here are the newest additions to the restaurant and shopping scenes to put in your iPhone.

The Surf Lodge

The Surf Lodge in Montauk

The Surf Lodge in Montauk at 183 Edgemere Road has just opened its driftwood trimmed, color infused, chic doors as the newest boutique-hotel. With a top chef, Sam Talbot, led restaurant, as well as an indoor and outdoor bar right on Fort Pond, it has signature cocktails and a crowd that’s as attractive as the view. Tracy Feith has opened his boutique there as well.

Just down the Nappeague strip is another surf inspired restaurant and bar, the Surf Shack at 2095 Montauk Highway. With a seafood menu that’s taken a trip down south to include a Cajun flare, the big kahuna inspired indoor/outdoor space will be hosting après-beach festivities with different bands, umbrella drinks galore, and free sliders.

Rounding out the Montauk scene is Second House Tavern. Located in a historic building with a view of Fort Bond Bay, it serves new American bistro food in either the Tavern Room, a more casual Grill Room, or just slide up to the raw bar. Remember what oysters do to you.

For the casual lunch or dinner or even (can you believe it in the Hamptons) take-out menu, Indian Wells Tavern at 177 Main Street in Amagansett is the new local staple for the all-American favorites, and you can even catch the big game at the bar.

After you’ve cleaned up from the beach and put on your best Jack Rogers and Pashmina, check out Alison’s restaurant in its new location at the Maidstone Arms Inn in East Hampton. The famous inn lends a cozy atmosphere for Alison’s continuing author’s round table series.

Cherrystones takes over the former A&B Snowflake spot in Amagansett at 277 Pantigo Road with take-out or eat-in lobster, fish, chicken, in its still kid friendly environment.

If the sushi craving hits, get your designer chopsticks and head to Show Win at 40 Montauk Highway in Amagansett.

Bring your appetite and a big steak knife to Oso in the Southampton Inn. A Mediterranean, seafood-infused steak house from Chef Peter Dunlop that’s open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you’re still feeling energetic as those oysters are starting to kick in and you need a fun late night dance spot to meet and greet, check out Lily Pond. Formerly known as Le Flirt and NV, it’s located at 44 Three Mile Harbor Road.

Shopping

You’ll want the sharpest tool in your shopping shed and that limitless Amex for these new stores:

EAST HAMPTON
The British invasion of the Hamptons continues (can you say weak dollar) with Mulberry at 48 Main Street in East Hampton. All the rage in the UK, these oversized totes come in vibrant hued vinyl and smooth as butter leather.

Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic brings its clean white and pastel toned comfort to 66 Newtown Lane with a line of overstuffed furniture, bedding, slips, and home wares for your Hamptons country “cottage.”

Tory Burch has totally revamped with a super mod renovation at 47 Newtown Lane featuring her signature TT tunics, clothes, shoes and handbags.

Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly Pulitzer in East Hampton

Original prepsters who remember Lilly Pulitzer before pink and green became the new pink and green will be pleased to find an East Hampton outpost with men’s, women’s, and future ivy leaguer kids’ wear at 55 Newtown Lane.

Anyone who thinks a T-Shirt is just a T-shirt hasn’t visited James Perse. It’s a new outpost at 56 Newtown Lane for where gals and guys can augment their weekend casual ware.

Ralph-Hampton is going to get its own zip code soon with the latest addition of Rugby by Ralph Lauren at 32 Main Street featuring summer staples for men and women with a more casual look and price tag than its wealthy cousin across the street.

If you heard a collective fashionista squeal, it was because Intermix opened at 87 Main Street in East Hampton so they don’t have to travel to Southampton for a must-have new outfit after a day at Main Beach.

For the couture crowd it was more of a sophisticated sigh of pleasure with the addition of Bellhaus in Wainscott at 328 Montauk Highway which transformed the roadside bike and surf shop into a designer showcase for men, women and the home. With names like Sonia Rykiel and Alexander McQueen, it’s scoring the exclusive Hamptons representation.

SOUTHAMPTON
Southampton, true to its Gin and Tonic Lane roots, has classic outposts for the perfect thing to wear for cocktail parties and clubbing (think Maidstone, not Pink Elephant). Brooks Brothers and J. Crew are dominating Main Street, while Giorgio’s of Palm Beach on 40 Jobs Lane is there for Lora Piana cashmere and an alligator hand bag.

For fans of Vera Bradley’s quilted bags, towels and accessories, as well as the necessary wedge flip-flop, you can find a vast array of her goods at Willy Nilly East at 71 Jobs Lane. Brighton bags and accessories are also well represented and best yet, unlike lobster salad, most things in the store are under a hundred dollars.

Fresh off the Jitney, Hampton party girls who haven’t realized the necessity of flats on a polo field have a plethora of colorful, gem-studded sandal designs, including the option to create their own at il Sandalo of Capri at 10B Jobs Lane (they even have narrow and wide sizes, 4-13).

Coming soon next to the Driver’s Seat at 66 Jobs Lane is jewelry designer Jill Lynn & Company whose work with precious and semi-precious stones have caught the eye of every gal looking for some original, hand crafted bling which won’t break the bank.

SAG HARBOR
You can’t miss the bright, colorful mini dresses and fanciful accessories from Lisa Perry who has traveled from Soho to 45 Main Street in Sag Harbor. Next to the American Hotel, she’s adding some 60’s mod to its neighbor’s classic Victorian feel.

The Urban Zen Foundation is charitable project started by Donna Karan and Sonja Nurral that raises money to promote well being, for empowering children, and to preserving cultures. The new Urban Zen store at 4 Bay Street in Sag Harbor includes layering designs from eco-friendly fabrics, home accessories and jewelry from world designers.
