Late last year, if you recall, we took a comprehensive look at the coexistence of Yankees and Red Sox fans here in the Hamptons. Much to our delight, it appears we'll take a look at a similar matter only in a different arena, as the New England Patriots face the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. The Pats have been an obvious lock for the championship since day one, but unless you are Prince Akeem of Zamunda, you likely didn't see the Giants making it this far did you?
We could predict winners and scores by comparing stats, like the Pats' flawless record and the Giants' 10 straight road wins, or discussing Tom Brady's high-ankle sprain and Michael Strahan's pass rush, but there's already plenty of that going around online, on air and in print with over a week still to go until the big game. Instead, we're making some significant comparisons between the two regions regarding food, people, and travel. Chime in below when you have a moment.
States:
New England is comprised of six states (CT, RI, MA, VT, NH, ME), whereas New York barely reaches two if you include New Jersey. Advantage: New England
Islands:
New England has Block Island, the Elizabeth Islands, Mount Desert Island, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. New York has Manhattan, Shelter Island, Fire Island, Ellis Island, Staten Island, Fisher's Island, and so forth. Seeing that New York is the Thousand Islands Region and that the Hamptons are on Long Island. Hmmm. Advantage: New York
Mountains:
New England has the Green Mountains and the White Mountains. New York has the Catskills and Adirondacks. This is a tough one, but as much as the Appalachians pass through New York, they end in New England (thanks a lot Maine). Advantage: New England
Franks & Beans:
New England has Boston Baked Beans. New York has Nathan's Hot Dogs. Both are excellent game time snacks. One requires a utensil for eating, tends to drip on your hands and remains known as the "musical fruit," and the other isn't. Advantage: New York
Chowder:
New England Clam Chowder is creamy and frothy goodness. Manhattan Clam Chowder is New England Clam Chowder with tomato soup on top. Advantage: New England
Dessert:
New England has the Boston Cream Pie. New York has the New York Cheesecake. Another tough decision, as both are indeed such sweet treats. However, a Boston Cream Pie is actually a cake and not a pie. We find honesty to be of crucial importance in our regional comparison. Advantage: New York
Accent:
In New England, Bar Harbor is pronounced "Bah Habah". In New York, Long Island is pronounced "Lawn Guyland." Let's face it, there's no winner here.
New England wins hands down,
In NY u forgot, plum island,
