Russell Simmons

Kirk Cassels

Practice love. Serve happiness to others. Be successfull by bringing success to those you support and vice versa. These are only a few of the aphorisms Russell Simmons shared in a recent interview with Plum. He's been labeled the Godfather of Hip Hop, an ironic title he said, as he never had any intention of using any kind of "muscle over anyone."

His recent book, Do You, is about "the inner strength, the piece of God in you. You can't do anything without that. You have to look inside. People are always so busy looking outside."

To the critics of rap, Simmons said, "Rappers are just mirroring the unconsciousness of society."

As for success: "Money doesn't make you happy. But happy makes you money."

Simmons remains recognized for his excellence in entrepreneurship which has expanded beyond the intangible borders of the music industry. His significant philanthropic contributuions range from VH1's Save the Music to ensuring the development of higher education in South Africa.Just when you think you know enough about him, he surprises you with more.
