It looks like a cross between the bicycles of the 1890s and the 21st century. But it's the latter era East Hampton inventor Curtis DeForest wants to embrace. His prototype of the HyperBike not only supplies a full body workout (there are pedals for the hands as well as the feet), but hits the ground running.
He likens the motion and energy of a cyclist using his HyperBike to someone being chased by a bear: your entire body is being used.
The HyperBike (recently featured on the Discovery Channel) may not be in your local bike shop this summer, and it takes up the room of a statue, but it doesn't seem unlikely that this very cool looking bike (which bears as much resemblance to a bicycle as a rocketto to a bi-plane) will become not only an upscale bike/exercise device, but might have uses beyond terra firma. It's not hard to see astronauts of the near future scooting over the flat terrain of planets like Mars on a device right out of the inventive brain of East Hampton's DeForest.
