Now is the time to head to your favorite East End surf location according to Captain Craig Cantelmo from Van Staal reels. This weekend in Montauk found hundreds of expert to novice anglers on the North Side casting bucktails in an angry sea. The recent storms pushed six- to eight-foot swells up against the beach and also pushed the bait right into the wash. Now — with the weather beginning to calm — is the time to get out and fish a few tides a week. Although Montauk has been a day time bite, this week will see the largest fish being taken at night.
Remember to be safe when you go out, and if you’re fishing in the rocks be sure to have a pair of Korkers that have carbide spikes on the bottom so that you don’t slip. Also, if you’re fishing in waders make sure that you wear a belt around your waist to avoid filling up your waders if you take an unexpected wave over the top!
Check back every Wednesday for a new report.
