This week’s fishing was based on water temps says Captain Craig Cantelmo of Van Staal reels. The balmy 80-90 degree temperatures moved the large body of bass in the Peconic Bays and around Shelter Island to deeper, cooler water. Unfortunately, this occurs every year when the water temps exceed 70 degrees. Look for the fish to start moving east. The weakfishing was very good this week with a number of large fish coming from the Eastern Peconics around Jessup’s Neck. Look to the South Shore Bays for cool, clean water and lots of fish. If you can find some cool water you may still find some large bass.
Ken Morse of Tight Line tackle in Sag Harbor reports that this was not the greatest week of fishing. The eel bite was off at Shinnecock, however, some anglers did great on bucktails at night off the rocks. There are still plenty of small bluefish inside the Peconics with some larger fish on the outside near Plum Gut and The Race. The big porgies are still around and some nice fluke were caught near Cedar Point in Sag Harbor this week.
Check back every Wednesday for a new report.
