Goodbye to the glory days, at least for a while. Weather conditions made fishing tough this week. Captain John McMurray of One More Cast Charters reports that there’s not much going on in Jamaica Bay due to the east wind and the rain.
Ken Morse at Tight Lines Tackle in Sag Harbor says fishing for weakfish had started to heat up prior to the bad weather setting in. Anglers on boats and on the beach were reporting catches up to 12 pounds.
Ken has heard reports of some bass being caught, even in the nasty weather. The back of Sag Harbor cove has been sheltered the last few days, offering reprieve from the wind, but unusually high tides have made wading difficult.
Fluke season opens on Thursday the 15th with the limit set at 4 fish over 21½ inches per person/per day. As soon as the good weather returns, anglers should be back on the fish in no time.
Check back every Wednesday for a new report.
