Fire Up the Grill!

Graham Veysey

In case you missed it, Tony Lawless from Cromer's Market visited the MorningNoon&Night Show Memorial Day weekend and shared his tips for a great grilling experience:

  1. Buy great cuts of Porterhouse steak, pork, and lamb chops.
  2. Turn the grill on high and let it heat up.
  3. Live by the mantra "Buy great meat and just salt and pepper it." If the meat is good, the meal will be good.
  4. Put the pork on the grill and wait 5 minutes.
  5. Place the Porterhouse steak* on the grill (which Tony describes as "the King of Steak" and the "unbeatable choice" for beef).
  6. Don't ever ruin a piece of steak with BBQ sauce.
  7. Drink a glass of wine and when you are done you'll know to flip the steak and the pork.
  8. Put the lamb on last -- cook for 3 minutes per side. Baste it with adash of olive oil and garlic. Make sure you leave the inside pink.
  9. Grill the pork and steak for another 5 minutes and you are done.
  10. Enjoy!

* How did Porterhouse Steak get its name? From www.chicagomeat.com

"In the early 1800s, travelers stopped to dine on steak and ale at coachstops or porter houses. The steak gained popularity in the United Statesaround 1814 when Martin Morrison, A New York City porter house keeper, began to serve it. This steak is cut from the short loin and contains the top loin and tenderloin muscles."
