The Day the Music Died: No $15,000 Tickets this Summer

You're going to have to find someplace else to spend $15,000 this summer (assuming you still have $15,000). The Social Concert Series, which last summer brought Billy Joel, James Taylor, Dave Matthews, Tom Petty and Prince to the Ross School, is cancelling plans for their 2008 series. Something about losing $18 million on last year's concerts seems to have put a damper on the affair. Coupled with the fact that the people rich enough to buy tickets to the series also had the connections to get the tickets free, this business model was doomed from day one. Keeping a stiff upper lip is concert organizer Joe Meli who assures all that he is working on something even bigger for this summer. $16,000 tickets?
