Confirmed: Dan's Papers Sold

The official word came down Friday morning from News Communications Inc.: Brown Publishing has agreed to buy Dan's Papers. Around for nearly 50 years and currently owned by News Communications Inc., Dan's Papers—which was founded by Dan Rattiner—and its sister publications, Hampton Style and The Montauk Pioneer had been rumored to be on the block at the beginning of the summer, though at the time, it didn't seem any deal was imminent.

From the press release: "News Communications, Inc. announced that it has agreed to sell Dans Papers, Inc. to Brown Publishing Company. Mr. James Finkelstein, CEO of News Communications, added that although the transaction is expected to close in August, Brown Publishing will manage Dans through the closing date.

Dans Papers, Inc. publishes Dans Papers, Dans Hampton Style, Montauk Pioneer, as well as danshamptons.com, the portal to life in the Hamptons.

Roy Brown, Brown Publishing's President and CEO, will assume the title of CEO of Dans Papers, Inc., the title formerly held by Mr. Finkelstein.

Mr. Brown stated that key management and editorial personnel will remain the same. Dan Rattiner will remain as President of Dans Papers, Inc.,s Papers. Phil Witt will remain as publisher of Dans Hampton Style Magazine and danshamptons.com. Kathy Rae will continue as Associate Publisher of Dans Papers and Advertising Sales Director for the organization. Deborah Schoeneman will continue as Editor-in-Chief of Dans Hampton Style. as well as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Dan

Mr. Finkelstein added, "Dans and Dans Hampton Style are part of the fabric of life in the Hamptons. Over the years Dans has grown and now I fully expect that danshamptons.com will add to that growth. I will miss the publications and the staff. But the company's publications are very different than our other properties and it made strategic sense for us to sell. I know that Roy and his team will continue Dans growth both in the papers and over the Internet."
