The Wrap-up

September 16th, 2008 1:30pm
Elisa Jimenez Show

From Elisa Jimenez' "Urban Nomad" collection.

We came, we saw, we canoodled, and we drank loads of champagne. Fashion Week, we'll miss ya!

Nick Leighton's last show was a fun one: Project Runway in the tents. While celebrity guest judge J-Lo never showed due to a "foot injury" — her "bestie" Posh probably swept her leg at the Marc Jacobs after party — the filler of Tim Gunn was somewhat cool. Nick voted for "the straight guy" to win with his Americana theme, campy, we like it!

Keenan's big night was on Thursday at the Hilfiger show, where he caught up with EVERYONE from Tommy himself to John Legend, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, and model Bar Rafaeli (Leo DeCaprio's girlfriend). As put by the happily married, and obviously lying Duffty, “Our cameraman’s eyes were about to pop out of his head when we were interviewing her, she's a swim suit model you see. Me? I've been working with super cute models for eons, so I am immune to their charms. Maybe I'm jaded, yes, I'm jaded."

Fashion darling Lauren Ezersky exclaimed Zac Posen as her favorite show. In addition to the plethora of celebs (Jada Pinkett Smith, Leighton Meister, Juliette Lewis and Bette Midler), Posen's clothing was very "Hollywood: sexy, beautiful. The way every woman wants to feel." In fact, the big E was still slated to attend shows after Fashion Week had officially ended, you go girl!

Elisa Jimenez & boyfriend Moses

Elisa Jimenez poses with her boyfriend, Moses.

Socialites Kelly Killoren Bensimon and Jennifer Creel were out and about last week, Bensimon at Michael Kors and holding court at Balthazar, Creel backstage at Dennis Basso and lunching with the ladies on the Upper East Side.

My last show was Friday night at Country Club where Project Runway alum, Elisa Jimenez, showed an “Urban Nomad" collection of body hugging dresses, and eco-conscious totes. Then it was off to the jitney for a fashion-free weekend of beach walks and bad movies.

Until February …

Patrick McMullan

On Thursday, September 11th, I popped by the Lambertson-Truex store on Madison to hang out with Lisa Anastos (founder of the Whitney Contemporaries), check out the new limited edition bags to benefit the Whitney designed by Donald Baechler (only 199 left now that Lisa snagged one), and, of course, take advantage of the delightful passed hors d'oeuvres.

Day Eight And Still Kickin'

September 11th, 2008 9:07pm
Nanette Lepore

Fashion for a worthy cause.

Things started to fall apart on Day Eight of this fashion marathon for me. The morning began with the discovery that my sister’s dog gnawed on my Jimmy Choo kicks! I was tempted to make a muff out of him, but gamely switched shoes and ran off to the Nanette Lepore show which featured TONS o' models wearing bright floral prints, ruffles galore, chunky necklaces and softly braided hair. The passionate Lapore thanked the crowd with her daughter, both wearing Save the Garment Center t-shirts.

Later that afternoon, our own Keanan Duffty was featured in a Gen Art Britannia Rules alongside across-the-pond counterparts Georgina Chapman (with hubby Harvey Weinstein) and Sue Stamp. In attendance was Kelly Killoren Bensimon, who was spotted earlier at the well-attended Michael Kors show.

Target Bodega

That's right, only $34.99! Hooray for Target!

Duffty was a whirlwind as he later rushed to the opening of the Target Bodega pop-up store on 57th and 6th, which featured his menswear collection along with CUTE dresses by Jonathan Saunders and bags by Anya Hindmarch. It was packed to the gills, and Duffty reported many people walking out with loads of stuff. "Hopefully they weren't stealing it!" he said cheekily.

When I arrived late (after sipping Hennessey with a hip-hop-heavy crowd at the Details party at Louis Vuitton) the crowds had thinned and I was able to shop (and drink cheap wine) easily. Who ever said the early bird gets the goods? My night got even brighter when Jessica and Jerry Seinfeld walked in with old palsy NY Times etiquette editor Philip Galanes! We danced around the store as the cameras followed the glam couple. I knew Tar-jay was trendy, but this was red-carpet worthy!

Afterwards, I left to cocktail at the Empire Hotel, while the Dufftser and crew partied with Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro at the John Varvatos party.

Nick Leighton Takes Manhattan

September 11th, 2008 11:09am

Ladies and gentleman, little Nicky has ARRIVED. Our intrepid reporter Nick Leighton was featured in the New York Times Style Section! Photographed with his trusty Plum mic in hand as he worked the Assouline book party for supermodel Veruschka, he was captured rooftop against the New York City skyline sporting a new crew cut and schoolboy cardigan. His stoic expression reveals that he was either contemplating which hard hitting questions he was going to ask Veruschka, or whether it was to be a gin or vodka night.

My Favorite Day So Far

September 10th, 2008 7:50pm
Rodarte

The fashion of Rodarte.

Day Six of fashion week was my FAVORITE so far. I started the day off with a bang as I bypassed the long line at Rodarte by luckily walking in behind a blonde-bobbed Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee, and was whisked right in! Thanks, Anna! Backstage was a green affair as the Mulleavy sisters (the designers behind Rodarte) had Aveda-sponsored water coolers instead of water bottles and organic catering, though most models preferred to smoke.

Front stage, the fashionistas were out in full force, with Anna front and center, and Diane von Furstenberg nearby. In the B-list section, Nina Garcia was sitting across from her nemesis Anne Slowey, which I'm sure made for great fodder on twitter.com. The show itself was KILLER, very Marilyn Manson meets Swan Lake, with uber-models like Agyness Deyn slinking down the catwalk in feminine silhouettes paired with metallic stilettos and cut-out tights. Wicked!

Things were much more playful at Betsey Johnson, which Matt our producer said was the most FUN backstage yet. Lauren Ezersky caught up with a very pretty and slimmed down Kelly Osbourne underneath a cloud of animal balloons. Taking in the VERY costumey fashion (what was up with the dancing pirate?) and Betsey's agile cartwheel and splits, were Hamptonites Russell Simmons, Beth Ostrosky and Lauren Conrad.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne in Betsey's World.

The evening found me at the Edun show on the Mini rooftop where I spoke with a very warm and BEAUTIFUL Ali Hewson. Bono's whip-smart wife talked about how "frivolous" she thought fashion was until she realized that via her company she could not only employ thousands of women in Africa, but spread the green message about organic materials and fair trade. And the clothes are cool to boot, dig! After Ali presented her collection, the crowd (including a popcorn munching Helena Christensen) watched a trailer about Uganda, where Edun's clothing is manufactured. Afterwards, the Rapture DJ'd, but this little lady was PLUM tired and BOUNCED to Brooklyn.
